I’ve been doing some research for the last couple weeks on blood colors that don’t pertain to the original 13 canon ones. I created these notes in mind of the people who create fantrolls but have trouble with blood typing and don’t want to use the canon colors and would rather use a similar shade. But by no means are my observations to be written in stone; its just a little side project I did to help myself since I was having my own troubles figuring out colors for blood.
There only about 13 blood colors for trolls that are considered canon. The 13 are rust, bronze, gold, iron, lime, olive, jade, cobalt, indigo, purple, violet and fuchsia. Any other color is considered to be part of one of the thirteen castes. The hemospectrum is divided into three sections, Low Hue, Mid Hue and High Hue. All blood colors except the mutants are dark in color, anywhere from the 70 to 90 percent tone range.
Burgundy Bloods – these blood colors are the lowest on the hemospectrum and have the shortest lifespan. The most common color of the burgundies are the Rustbloods, which is a dark red blood. Other burgundy bloods include crimson, scarlet, ruby, and garnet. The mutant variety of the burgundy blood is the Ironblood, also called Cherryblood.
Umber Bloods – these blood colors are second on the hemospectrum ladder and have a slightly longer lifespan than that of the burgundy bloods. The most common color is the Bronzeblood, which is a reddish brown color. Other umbers include copper, russet, and sienna. The mutant version of the umbers is called a Agateblood.
Ochre Bloods – these bloods colors are the yellow hues, which you’d think would be too bright for as dark as troll blood is but they do exist. The Goldblood is the most common color and is also known as mustard. Other colors of the ochre caste include brass, citrine, and amber. The mutant variety is called Paleblood, also called the Yellowblood.
Mid Blood Hues – Yellow-Green, Green and Blue-Green
*The mid hues have a lifespan that is closed to that of the average human. They are more or less non-violent and do not possess any special abilities.
Yellow-Green Bloods – These colors are the first of the mid hues, which is to say the greenbloods who sit right in the middle of the Low and High blood colors. Greenbloods are often given very specific tasks and these tasks are usually important to the survival of trollkind. These blood colors have an average human-like lifespan, which make them suited for the roles they play in Trollian society. The yellow-green bloods include olive, sage, moss, lime and viridian. The Limeblood is extinct. The Viridianblood is the mutant version of the yellow-greens. *It should be noted that the Greenbloods are the most numerous in hue variety*
Green Bloods – These are the second tier of the group of mid hue castes. Most of the stone bloods are categorized into the Greenblood caste. The Greenblood colors include Jade, Emerald, Peridot, and the mutant Mint. Of of the mid hue tones and out of all the blood colors in general, the Greenbloods carry some of the rarest blood colors.
Blue-Green Bloods – this caste makes up the third and final tier of the mid hue tones. These colors are the bridge between the low and higher castes and serve as a sort of mediator. Many trolls of this caste take up civil service positions but this is not always the case. The colors of the blue-greens include the common teal and aqua as well as turquoise and the mutant cyan.
High Blood Hues – Blue, Blue-Violet, Violet, Red-Violet
*The high blooded castes have a much more violent nature and live the longest out of all the blood colors. Most do not have powers but there are exceptions.
Blue Bloods – these colors are on the bottom of the High Blooded castes and while most do not have special abilities, they do carry a strong sense of presence, which can intimidate many of the lower bloods. The colors of this caste include cerulean, cobalt, sapphire and the mutant sky.
Blue-Violet Bloods – the colors in this caste are the separating factor between the lower ranking blue blood nobility and the higher purplebloods. This caste is one of the most violent in disposition of the high blooded hues and seem to have a going rivalry with the sea-dwelling violets and red-violets. The colors of the blue-violets include indigo, slate, navy and the mutant azure blood.
Violet Bloods – there are two distinct groups of purple that make up the Violet caste, the Violetbloods themselves who are sea-dwellers and the Purplebloods, who are land dwellers. Purplebloods are closer in color to that of the blue-violets, while the Violetbloods are closer to the red-violets. The land dwelling Purples include purple, orchid and the mutant lavender while the Violets include violet, amethyst and the mutant lilac.
Red-Violet Bloods – these blood colors are the highest on the spectrum and enjoy the longest lives out of all the Trollian blood colors. Pinkbloods have been known to live for thousands of sweeps and not age a day past their prime youth.
Mutant Bloods: Mutant bloods appear to be flukes and hold no real function in Trollian society. Mutants are the rarest of the rare and often do not survive past the grub stage. The mutant colors I have mentioned above are my own personal headcanon, because I PERSONALLY think that each of the 12 canon colors can have a mutant version. As far as I know, any mutant blooded troll canonly will have the same blood color as Karkat, regardless of what part of the spectrum they may have come from originally. i.e. a cherryblooded sea-dweller would be a “canon” mutant according to what Hussie has said previously.
